Her Road To Becoming A Saint
Cause for Venerable Mary Potter’s Canonisation
Venerable Mary Potter
Born in London 22nd November 1847
Died in Rome 9th April 1913
Mary Potter was declared Venerable on 8th February 1988 by St. Pope John Paul II. The Church recognised her heroic virtues as a woman of faith, hope and charity. Her life and writings continue to be a source of inspiration to many people today.
Crowds of visitors from all walks of life came to see Mary Potter after her death and continued to arrive from morning to night. Old and young, rich and poor, Catholics and non-Catholics remembered her help with gratitude. The Sisters opened letter after letter from people who wanted to tell them how much Mary Potter had meant to them.
Mary Potter was buried in the cemetery of San Lorenzo, Rome on 12th April 1913 and her body was brought back to rest in the chapel of Calvary Hospital, Rome in 1917. Her final resting place is now in St Barnabas Cathedral Nottingham, where in December 1997 her remains were translated from Rome.
Prayer for the Beatification of Venerable Mary Potter
Evidence of an authentic miracle is required before Mary Potter is Beatified and another before she becomes a Saint. We welcome you to join us in praying for her Beatification.
O God to whose glory the Little Company of Mary was founded by Venerable Mary Potter, grant that she may be Beatified soon, so that her work and spirit may benefit still more, the suffering members of Jesus Christ. Amen
Mary Mother of the Church may this ardent apostle of your Maternal Heart be more widely known by special favours granted through her intercession.
